DHARAMSHALA, April 9: The Buddhist Community Centre United Kingdom (BCCUK) has auctioned the two signed portraits of the Tibetan Spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama by the British figurative artist Lisa Andrew raising a total amount of £6200.

The portraits of the Tibetan Nobel Laureate are said to be two of a small number of signed portraits that the Dalai Lama signed during his last year visit to the EBB stadium in Aldershot, UK.

Both paintings were auctioned at a BCCUK Charity Dinner in Reading.

According to the artist, Lisa Andrews, the oil on canvas which shows a laughing Dalai Lama was intended to both encapsulate the spirit of the Dalai Lama, and portray his characteristic sense of humor.

“I love to use oil paint as the fluidity of the paint merges and flows to mirror my energy and emotions. I paint people and in particular their faces, as I find this both the most challenging and enjoyable,” said Lisa. “My paintings seek to capture more than just a photographic image of my subject, but also to include the person’s energy. I paint to express emotion: the emotion and expression of my subject and my reaction to it”

The critically acclaimed artist Lisa has appeared in the opening exhibition of Life the Gallery alongside Mark Demsteader and other internationally renowned artists. She has exhibited across the UK and her work is currently sold through a London Gallery.

The funds from the portraits will go towards the renovation of the building which will become a new Buddhist Monastery/Community Centre in Aldershot for all Buddhists and will also be open to the public.
