The EU Presidency will visit Tibet prior to the EU-China Bilateral Human Rights Dialogue in Beijing on 24 September 2004. The visit, from 20-23 September, is being undertaken to directly gather information on the human rights situation in Tibet.
The Presidency will visit Lhasa and its surrounding areas. They have requested to meet with authorities from the TAR, PSB, education and religion departments. They will also be visiting monasteries and villages in and around the Lhasa area.
The Dutch authorities and their partners are unlikely to visit any prisons in Tibet due to the risks it brings to the prisoners.
