NEW DELHI – The exiled Tibetan Prime Minister Samdhong Rinpoche called on India to help resolve the Tibetan issue.
“A process of dialogue is going on between our government (the Dalai Lama’s exiled Tibetan government) and the Chinese leadership,” Rinpoche said Sunday.
“I would like to call upon India to take active part in the ongoing process of dialogue between Tibet and China,” he added.
A nine-year stand-off between the Dalai Lama’s government-in-exile and the Chinese leadership ended in September last year when a four-member delegation of the Dalai Lama visited Beijing and the Tibetan capital Lhasa.
Rinpoche was Sunday addressing a meeting of delegations from different Himalayan regions including Nepal and Bhutan, attending the first meeting of the Himalaya Cultural Parliament in New Delhi.
He said that no Tibetan delegation was now in China, but one was expected to visit Beijing this year for the second round of talks.
The Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 and established a government-in-exile in Dharamsala, northern India.
