Tibetans inside Tibet give two thumbs up to new Kalon Tripa

DHARAMSHALA, August 10: Over two dozen Tibetan youngsters from different regions of Tibet sent congratulatory messages to the newly elected Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay.

The youngsters from various parts of Tibet celebrated Dr Sangay’s inauguration by visiting monasteries and praying for his success and restoration of freedom in Tibet, reported RFA.

“Today, many of us bunked our schools and went to the monastery to pray for the success of our newly elected prime minister,” said a student in Tibet’s capital Lhasa.

Amongst the youngsters calling-in from all corners of Tibet to wish the former Tibetan Youth Congress leader were farmers, monks and students.

Besides discreetly gathering at different places to mark the day, some of the youngsters organised phone conversations with other Tibetans inside Tibet, spreading congratulatory messages.

One of the core organisers of the phone conversation said inspiration for taking part in activities for Tibet came from his family and also through the testing times mingling with Chinese students.

Along with the messages of congratulations to the new Kalon Tripa, the Tibetan youngsters requested Tibetans outside Tibet to respect their mother tongue and speak in pure Tibetan.

“When we appeal for the preservation of our language, we don’t mean to undervalue other languages,” one Tibetan youth clarified. “Anyone can speak Chinese, English but please preserve our language well.”
