DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 28: One of the senior most leader in the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for renewed fight against what he called “separatist elements and activities” for the ethnic unity and religious harmony during his visit to occupied Tibet last week.
Wang Yang, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee and the Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference on Sunday called for “greater efforts to fight separatist elements and activities” inside Tibet.
Xinhua, a mouth piece of the Chinese government reported Wang to have urged authorities and officials to carefully implement CPC’s policy regarding governance of Tibetan areas and that they must fully understand the significance and importance of the work regarding Tibetan areas.
Wang, the fourth ranking communist leader of China also called for tighter control over Tibet’s Buddhist institutions and its monastic community, urging “preparedness and precautions for danger in times of safety” during his visit to Lhasa city.
China’s so called fight with anti-separatists, primarily in Tibetan region has seen hundreds of Tibetans to be susceptible to conviction on the infamous charge of “inciting separatism”. Most recently, Tibetan language rights activist Tashi Wangchuk whose appeal against his five-year sentence was rejected, is charged with the same offense.
Wangchuk’s and many other Tibetans continue to suffer in Chinese prisons through sentences pronounced by sham Chinese courts in occupied Tibet, under the so-called fight against “separatists”.
The Chinese government has repeatedly accused the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama as a “separatist” and the exile Tibetan government known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration based here as a “separatist organisation” despite its proposition of the “middle way approach” which seeks autonomy under China as per its constitution.
