BYLAKUPPEE, April 9: Doeguling Youth Sports Association (DYSA) Mungod will face Gangtok FC in the finals of the 24th Gyalyum Chenmo Gold Cup football tournament, the biggest sporting event of the Tibetan Diaspora, being held here at the Tibetan Dekyi Larsoe football field.
In the first semi final today, DYSA Mungod beat Cholsum FC Toronto by a solitary goal from their lone striker Urgyen Sangpo who headed the ball past Cholsum FC goalkeeper from a free kick in the 26th minute taken by Nyima Dhondup.
Toronto FC did try to come back into the game but could not convert the chances they had.
In the second semi final, Gangtok FC beat former Champions Dhondupling FC by 3 goals to nil. Gangtok FC captain Tenzin Tsephel was sent off in the 16th minute for dissent and foul language by the referee. With Gangtok FC reduced to ten men, the dynamics of the game suddenly changed. However, a right footed cross from Gangtok FC’s Karma Tenzin found the back of the net in the 26th minute.
In the second half, a cross from Pema Lhundup of Gangtok FC was sent into the wrong side of the net by Dhondupling defender Tenzin Tsukputh in the 57th minute. Dhondupling’s chances of getting back into the game became slimmer and slimmer as the clock ticked. Two minutes later, in the 57th minute, Temphel Lhundup of Gangtok FC chested a cross from Pema Lhundup and hit a right footed shot into the net past the goalkeeper, making it three nil.
