DHARAMSHALA, Mar. 29: The Central Board for Secondary Education on Wednesday announced that two examination papers, each from the Class X and XII standards, will be re-conducted in the light of reports suggesting leak of test papers.
An official circular from the CBSE dated March 28 stated that the Class 10 Mathematics and Class 12 Economics papers will be conducted again with new dates for the examinations to be made public within a week.
The circular said that authorities have “taken serious cognizance of the leak” and a police investigation is underway. The board said it is taking the step to “uphold the sanctity of the board examination and in the interest of fairness to students.”
It is reported that photos of hand written exam papers were circulated widely just hours before the scheduled exam time. The photos contained some questions that were drafted in the actual papers.
The Department of Education under the Central Tibetan Administration has 27 schools under its jurisdiction, that has X and XII standard CBSE affiliation which includes the Tibetan Children’s Village schools, the Central Schools for Tibetans and the Mussoorie Homes School. The academic section of the department told Phayul that in 2017, 1444 Tibetan students from X standard and 1292 Tibetans students from the XII standards appeared for the Xth and XIIth board exam respectively.
This year, 16,00,000 students from class X and 11,00,000 students from class XII, all over India registered for the exams that are now set to be retaken in the near future before the results are to be announced in the summer.
Here in Dharamshala, where one of the oldest and largest Tibetan schools, TCV is situated, panic has struck the students who just yesterday celebrated their graduation party after finishing the exams. A teacher from Upper TCV who does not wish to be named told Phayul, “Many of the students are panic-stricken. The retest dates are yet to be announced and students are in fear of taking exams again which they think will be made an example of and consequently made tougher. Many also had to cancel their travel tickets and cannot yet book new ones.”
The CBSE board exams forms the rudimentary grade certificates which collegiate institutions judge to be the basis on which their admissions depend in India.
