FIFA kicks off football development campaign for women in Tibet

DHARAMSHALA, December 13: The World’s apex football governing organization FIFA has launched a football development initiative specifically for women in Tibet, beginning with the capital city Lhasa.

The international governing body of football with this campaign under the theme ‘Live Your Goals’ aims at creation of platform for aspiring women footballers. The first activity under this campaign is futsal games and competitions especially designed to encourage the girls to engage in the game.

The campaign will see new football campuses created in 51 schools across the city, covering primary, middle and high schools, reports Soccerex.com.

Live Your Goal campaign was launched in 2011 by FIFA with hopes of showing girls and young women their possibilities in football. Over 225 projects with 50 Member associations have been implemented through this campaign.

Boosting over thousands of girls enrolling in the campaign launched in various countries including Peru, Costa Rica, Uganda, India, Tahiti, Australia and Chinato It now has reached the roof of the world after a year of its launch in China in 2016.

A total of 72 of the 211 FIFA Member Associations have signed up for the program as they seek to promote the women’s game at grassroots level.

The apex sport body of exile Tibetan, Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA), too has its own program to nurture women footballers. TNSA has organized training camps in the past with this year’s camp commencing from December 25, 2017 to January 15, 2018. The camp will be at the Tibetan Vocational Training Center in Dehradun. It will be a training camp cum selection for the Tibetan women’s team, which represents Tibet in various tournaments around the country.
