DHARAMSHALA, Sept. 29: Advocacy and activist group International Tibet network kicked off a regional Asia meeting today in the Taiwanese capital Taipei. The meeting is attended by over 30 representatives from around the world as well as local politicians and civil society members.
The 3-day meeting, Lobsang Yangtso, Campaign and Environmental Researcher at ITN, said was to revitalize and embolden the support system for the Tibet movement in the international forums. “The gathering of representatives from all over the world gave us the unique opportunity to pool in and discuss the Tibetan issue and its dynamics. This morning we had an interaction on Tibet, Taiwan and Hong Kong’s common themes and identity as well as challenges forward dealing with Beijing.”
Yangtso told Phayul that it was basically to devise collaborative reaches and build network among people and to shore up strategies on the challenges that lay in the future.
The meeting was attended and participated by key Taiwanese legislators such as Freddy Lim and Yu Mei Nu who vowed support and solidarity with the Tibet movement. ITN Executive Director Allison Reynolds gave an overview of the organization’s projects till date and plans ahead.
Former Indian member of Tibetan Parliament Rinchen Khandro Khrimey from the Core Group for Tibetan Cause spoke on the significance and the role of the Tibet movement in exile and particularly India.
The San Francisco head-quartered International Tibet Network is a global coalition of Tibet-related non-governmental organizations working to increase the capacity of individual member organisations, develops coordinated strategic campaigns, and encourages increased cooperation among organisations.
