DHARAMSHALA, August 3: The scheduled visit of the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Raleigh, Carolina in October has been postponed to April next year, announced the Mayor Nancy McFarlane.
The specifics and the dates of the rescheduled visit are yet to be finalized and the city administration is working on fixing a specific date of the visit.
“We appreciate how extensive His Holiness’ travel schedule is and we look forward to sharing with him and the world the beauty of Raleigh in the springtime,” McFarlane said, citing ‘travel schedule conflicts’.
Mayor McFarlane visited Dharamshala in May at her own expense to invite the Dalai Lama to her city and the 82-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader had also accepted the invitation. He was scheduled to have ‘big public event and talk’.
According to the Mayor, the Triangle’s reputation for scientific and health care research played an important role in the Dalai Lama’s decision.
The Triangle is a region in the Piedmont in the state of North Carolina in the United States, anchored by renowned universities and center to several high-tech companies and enterprises.
During her visit to Dharamshala, the mayor also visited the Tibetan Parliament in exile.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama yesterday arrived in New Delhi after concluding his six-week visit to Ladakh. As his final engagement in Ladakh, His Holiness inaugurated a three-day seminar on ‘Buddhism in Ladakh’ at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies in Leh on August 1.
