DHARAMSHALA, June 28: The organizing committee of the 34th Kalachakra today announced that the surplus funds of INR 3,09,48,435 from the religious events held last early this year would be used for welfare initiatives.
“As per the guidance of Gaden Phodrang (Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama), we will be using the remaining amount in various charitable works and welfare initiatives including INR 1,00,00,000 for programs under Department of Health to provide proper medical assistance to teachers and scholars of Tibetan Buddhism suffering from Hepatitis and INR 49,80,150 for renovation of old-age homes under Department of Home,” said Religion and Culture Kalon Karma Gelek Yuthok, who is also the Chairman of the Committee.

The committee also allocated INR 40,00,000 as scholarship fund for graduating students of Mussoorie’s Tibetan Homes School as its chief sponsor stopped financial aid.
Since CTA has recognized substance abuse as growing menace in the exile community, it has set aside INR 3,50,000 for Tibetan youth currently recovering from addiction at Shide Khangsar, a rehab center in Rajpur, Dehradun.
The committee disclosed that it received a total sum of INR 30,36,41,034, from which INR 21,12,23,688 was generated from donations given by devotees and INR 8,05,34,322 from various sponsors.
The total expense incurred during the 34th Kalachakra organized by the exile Tibetan administration in Bodh Gaya was INR 27,26,92,599 with over 1/3 of the total expenditure (INR 10,07,44,800) incurred on alms given to thousands of monks and nuns attending the religious initiation.
According to the official financial statement the total expenditure incurred during the initiation, sponsors contributed 29 percent and devotees through donations contributed around 70 percent.
The committee thanked everyone involved with the ‘successful completion’ of the 34th Kalachakra. It also stated that a complete audit from the Auditor General’s office will be done and the account statement will be available for any inquires soon.
