DHARAMSHALA, JAN. 31: The exile Tibetan government (known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration) has concluded a strategic meeting cum training for UN and Tibet experts on Sunday featuring prominent international organizations and government representatives from Europe as well as Tibetans living in the continent.

The meeting organized by the Department of Information and International Relations (CTA wing that handles international relations and information) had representatives from Office of Tibet Geneva, Unrepresented People’s Organization, International Campaign for Tibet, Tibet UN Advocacy Coalition, Europe Members of Tibetan Parliament in exile and Resident Expert on UN Politics and International Human Rights Machinery, reported the CTA run Tibet.net.

The efforts and engagements by DIIR will lead up to strengthen human rights advocacy for Tibet at the United Nations, particularly at the 34th UN Human Rights Council next month, it said.

The strategy meeting that concluded on Sunday assessed CTA’s past UN advocacy work and devised a strategic plan on profiling the pertinent human rights violations in Tibet using the UN Human Rights mechanisms and opportunities in the next five years.

The meeting was preceded by a week-long lobbying by DIIR’s UN and Human Rights Desk in coordination with Office of Tibet including Secretaries of the DIIR and Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche’s niece Nyima Lhamo.

“The strategy meeting will chalk out tangible plans for CTA’s human rights advocacy for Tibet at the UN. This will be on the lines of exploring the UN mechanisms and opportunities to seek UN engagement and subsequent addressing of the pressing human rights situation in Tibet,” Sonam Norbu Dagpo, International Relations Secretary, earlier said.
