DHARAMSHALA, JAN 26: Tibetan Prime Minister (Sikyong) Dr. Lobsang Sangay today greeted the Indian government and its people on India’s 68th Republic day. At a flag unfurling ceremony at the Kashag Secretariat to mark the day, Sangay said, “The republic of India has co-existed for over 68 year with over 200 languages (mother tongues) and all the major religions of the world. So I consider this a great achievement of India and congratulate its government and its people,” the Tibetan Prime Minister said after the unfurling the Indian tri-color.
He continued, “With discussions over the need of putting democracy ahead of development in the world, India is a prime example of how democracy and development can grow hand in hand. So on this day, I would like to wish and hope India would grow further on both fronts.”
The cabinet ministers (kalons) and dignitaries of the Tibetan government in exile also participated in the celebration at the kashag secretariat.
The Tibetan prime minister later attended the official celebrations organized by the Kangra district administration at the Zila Parishad hall in Dharamshala.
The constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950, making India a sovereign, democratic and a republic state. The day began to be celebrated as the Republic day of India each year.
