DHARAMSHALA, JAN 25: The Tibetan Parliament in Exile in its congratulatory letter to Donald Trump, the 45th President of the US, expressed hopes that the new administration will ‘reenergize’ international effort in solving the Tibet issue ‘amicably’ through dialogue.

“We are confident that under your presidency, the United States will continue this longstanding tradition and will re-energize the international effort to resolve the issue of Tibet amicably with China based on the Middle Way Approach,” Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel said in hopes of Trump following the precedent set by his predecessor.

Similarly, the Speaker also expressed his hope of Trump meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

“Following China’s invasion of Tibet, the people and the government of the USA have been strong supporter of the non-violent struggle of Tibet,” he said while congratulating Trump on behalf of Tibetans inside and outside Tibet.

In his letter, the Speaker also wrote about the current situation in Tibet under China’s repressive policies and mentioned the spate of self immolations by 145 Tibetans (since 2009).
