GAYA/DHARAMSHALA, DEC 31: His Holiness the Dalai Lama in his first public talk before the Kalachakra initiation today to hundreds of school and college students from in and around Bod Gaya area said that the ‘secular ethics’ should be included in the existing education system in India.
“I think the existing education system in India is not adequate and it is time that in secular education field we must include lesson on ‘secular ethics’, which does not touch issues related with next life, god or heaven but simply deliberating on how to create a happy life and health body,” the Tibetan spiritual leader said at the Kalachakra initiation ground.
He also expressed delight at many institutions in India showing great interest and genuine commitment in implementing curriculum on secular ethics.
“The generation of 21st century should think more about inner values and the modern education and the inner values must combine,” he said while urging the administrations of the institutions to pay more attention in these areas.
Jointly organized by Inter-religious Friend’s Association, Magadh University, Gaya College and New Enlightenment World Society (NEWS), the spiritual leader spoke on ‘the secrets of a happy life and successful life’.
Addressing the young minds the Dalai Lama said, “Time moves on. Past is gone like the 20th century. No matter how much we feel wrong or regret our past, nobody can change that. As for future, we can make some change and it is the responsibility of the youth to create a better world and a better future.”
The Nobel Peace Laureate emphasized that the in order to create world peace inner peace without anger, suspicioun and distrust must be developed. He also added that the inner peace is destroyed by anger, an emotion and not a weapon. So in order to create inner peace, practicing compassion and love is very important.
“We must all discard the secondary difference of nationality, faith, race, rich or poor and educated or uneducated and remember that we are all part of the seven billion human beings who wants happiness and despise sorrow,” the 81-year old Dalai Lama said while adding that sense of oneness is a key factor in bringing a peaceful world.
Organized by the Tibetan exile government, the 34th Kalachakra initiation begins from January 2 to 14 in Bodh Gaya.
