DHARAMSHALA, Dec.27: Chinese government on December 24 has expelled around 500 monks and nuns belonging to Golok Township from the Larung Gar Buddhist Institute in Serthar County, Kardze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan province.

According to RFA, many of the evicted Tibetan monks and nuns reportedly collapsed due to the shock of their expulsion.

Initially the police personnel did not attend to those who fainted saying they must be trying to deceive the police. However, they were later taken to hospital for treatment.

“The Chinese government has arranged a two-storied building in the Golok Township in preparation for housing these expelled monks and nuns from Laraung Gar,” said a source from the region.

The expulsion of monks and nuns from Larung Gar still continues with the authorities forcefully sending monks and nuns back to homes.

Pictures of the monks and nuns being hushed into waiting buses on Dec. 24 being posted on the social media has raised questions.

Since July this year the officials have carried out the demolition at one of the world’s largest Buddhist institutes and evicted thousands of the monk and nuns from the academy. This also resulted in the deaths of three nuns who committed suicide, not able to see the destruction of their academy.

Around 400 dwellings have been destroyed in the sections reserved for nuns in the recent weeks.
