Dharamshala, November 17, 2016: His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Wednesday visited the Setagaya Gakuen School in the Japanese capital Tokyo for the school’s founding anniversary marking his third visit to the prestigious school.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama encouraged the young audience to contribute to welfare of others, to develop self confidence and learn different languages so that they become aware of their surroundings where the reality is far worse than theirs.
Reflecting on the histories of violence in his times the Tibetan spiritual leader explained how people can actively work together for a peaceful world so that the perennial violence becomes ethereal. He mentioned that it cannot be achieved easily; and that the younger generation has a significant role in bequest of happiness and harmony in world. “You are our hope. Past is past; no one can change what happened. But in the future there is still hope, possibility,” said His Holiness, who advised the school to thrive for inner values of the students rather material values.
In response to a question about how a young student can change the world, the Dalai Lama said, “the first thing is to develop a peace of mind and then spread it among your friends and family. And then slowly and steadily as you grow in your profession, whatever that might be, it will help. Even in politics!”
His Holiness also made appearance later that day at the Japanese House of Representative Congress Hall and met with the members of different political parties and Japan-Tibet Parliamentary group.
The Tibetan spiritual leader also spoke on his lifelong commitments as a simple Buddhist monk to spread the message of love and peace for all humans around the globe. As a Tibetan he said he is committed to preservation of its ancient rich heritage and knowledge.
The Tibetan issue, the Dalai Lama stated, is not just a political one but also about an ancient community, their rich culture, language and environment. He stressed that, “Politically we are not looking for independence. For economic and other reasons we want to stay within China”.
In conclusion the Tibetan spiritual leader lauded the Japanese parliamentary members and others for their support to Tibet and also their dedication for justice in the world.
