DHARAMSHALA, November 2: The Tibetan prime minister Dr. Lobsang Sangay the world leaders should welcome His Holiness the Dalai Lama, calling global leaders’ inclination towards money than moral and values ‘unfortunate’.
“He is one of the most loved and revered leaders in the world. In 2011, he has separated the church and the state and he remains the spiritual leader. Like the Pope, he should be welcomed by leaders around the world to meet and to gain some wisdom from him,” Sangay, who is currently on visit to the UK, told the BBC in an interview.
He also added that as a Tibetan he wants the 15th Dalai Lama to come and it is up to the Tibetan people to wish and pray that there will be a next Dalai Lama.
The Harvard educated PM, in an opinion piece in ‘the Guardian’ dated October 31, appealed to the British government not to forget Tibet in their dealings with China.
He also reminded that Britain was the only country to formally recognize Tibet as an independent nation prior to the Chinese invasion, which however changed in 2008 after then Foreign Secretary David Miliband stated that Britain now recognized Tibet as part of China.
Sangay wrote that failing to stand up to China’s pressure in effect endorses the imposition of “its narrative on the rest of the world – a discourse that is anti-democratic, in which the law is viewed as a tool to maintain power and not to achieve justice, and one that is hostile to any views that do not accord with the official party line.”
He also highlighted the ongoing demolition in Larung Gar as an example of China’s disregards towards fundamental freedom of Tibetans inside Tibet.
“A united front can be used to push for a meaningful dialogue based on the CTA’s Middle Way Approach to resolve the longstanding issue of Tibet,” he wrote while urging UK to lead take a leading role in reaching out to other nation and confronting China.
He visited University of Westminster and Oxford University on October 31, where he interacted with students on the uniqueness of Tibetan democratic set up in exile, the Middle Way Approach as a solution to the Tibet issue.
