DHARAMSHALA, Sept 12: Following the detention of a Tibetan monk named Gendun Drakpa by Chinese authorities on Aug. 24 from Thangkor Soktsang Monastery in Dzoege County of Ngaba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, another Tibetan monk from the same monastery has reportedly been detained on the same day.
35 year old Lobsang Sherab who worked in the monastery’s store was suddenly taken away from his quarters on Aug. 24. RFA reported that his roommates were held at gun point and manhandled by authorities. “The security personnel pointed guns at them and told them to keep still. One monk who resisted was forced down by five officers and was injured in the struggle,” RFA’s source mentioned.
The Chinese officials who apprehended Lobsang conducted the detention hastily, taking him away even though he was not fully clothed. “Lobsang Sherab was then shoved into a vehicle and driven away without even being allowed to put on his clothes,” the source added.
There is still no information about the two monks from the Thangkor Soktsang Monastery even after 20 days of their arrest. Sources indicate they may have been taken to Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan province.
