DHARAMSHALA, June 15: In Frame, a photographic exhibition of contest entries by Kalsang Jigme, a Tibetan photographer was opened at the Tibet Museum near Tsuglakhang here.
Karma Yeshi, Minister (Kalon) for Finance in the Tibetan government in exile, attended the modest opening as the Chief Guest. Karma said that ‘In Frame’ has given a good platform for the Tibetan youth to showcase their photography skills and urged the Tibetans to extent their support for such initiatives.
“Since people these days do not give much time to reading huge write-ups and articles, through such photo exhibitions we can showcase the Tibetan cause and struggle, His Holiness’s missions and to conserve our rich heritage,” the minister said while wishing the photographer best for his future campaigns.
As for his future plans, Kalsang aims to organize such competitions annually and carry forward the exhibition to different places. The photographer plans to publish a bi-monthly photography magazine and to start a picture library, which would act as an archive with some rare and old pictures. These pictures would be both in hard and soft copies, he said.
Speaking to the media, he said, “I chose photography as a medium through which I could share my feelings. Since there are very few professional photographers in our society, I felt it would be a good way to give back to our society.”
The founder of In Frame expressed his gladness over the number of female participants in the competition, which saw photos from various countries including a few from Tibet.
The organizing team asks visitors to pick their top four photographers from the 63 photos shortlisted for the final competition and the result would be announced next month after adding the votes and the scores given by the judges. The contest was categorized into four sections: portrait, landscape, wildlife and people.
