NDPT holds 7th National Convention meeting

DHARAMSHALA, May 24: The maiden political party in Tibetan exile community, National Democratic party of Tibet, held their ‘7th National Convention Meeting’, here in McLeod Ganj with its members from regional chapters converging to participate in the proceedings.

The 7th edition of the national convention meeting that is held every four years seeks to resolve alterations in the core directives (rules and regulations) of the organization as well as to discuss on ten resolutions ranging from His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s well being, the situation inside Tibet and the future plans and fund raising proposals for the organization.

NDPT Central’s President Gelek Jamyang told reporters, “The meeting is especially significant given the event is held every four years and the key rules and regulations that guide the organization needs to be amended. We feel the responsibility to put forth a collectively resolved amendment in the rules and regulations of NDPT.”

The meeting will also appoint a new executive member of the NDPT Central based in Dharamshala. Out of the total 35 chapters spread around India, representatives from 20 chapters such as Delhi, Mysore, Bangalore, Chandigarh, and Bylakuppe consisting 40 people have made it to the meeting.

Chief Guest of the opening function, Kirti Rinpoche, while emphasizing the importance of the party pointed to the areas of development in the future operations of NDPT. He said, “In the recent election season, we have all witnessed various unfortunate developments which I believe had happened out of lack of information and knowledge of the Tibetan polity by our voters. The organization must strive to address the awareness of the Tibetan people on the political happenings, thereby contributing to the overall upliftment of the Tibetan democracy.”

Other guests including Tashi Lamsang from Tibetan Youth Congress, Lobsang Phuntsok, a patron of the organization, Members of parliament and supporters participated in the opening function. The three day convention will conclude on May 26.
