Lone protester in Kardze arrested

DHARAMSHALA, Nov. 30: A Tibetan man who carried out a solo protest at the main market of Kardze town on Friday has been arrested.

Jampa Sangay, a resident of Dado Township’s Rabkar village, peacefully protested in Kardze’s main market repeatedly shouting ‘Long Live His Holiness the Dalai Lama’ while scattering leaflets into the air.

Minutes after the incident, Chinese police on patrol arrived at the scene and took him away. The written content of the leaflets is unknown as the police cleaned off the area after his arrest.

According to information received by a source of VOT, Jampa is originally from Zago Ranta region in Kham where his father Loga and Mother Pochak still lives. After marriage, Jampa lived in Rabkar village with his mother in law, his wife with whom he has two children.

Chinese police movements in Kardze is intensified after the incident although Chinese personnel presence had been beefed up in the County following timely protests like that of Lobsang Thupten, the teenager who was arrested on Aug. 18 this year for calling for the Dalai lama’s return.

The conditions and whereabouts of Jamapa Sangay cannot be ascertained as of now.
