New Delhi, November 28: Six exile Tibetan writers and musicians took part in the Indian Language Festival (ILF) organized by Samanvay, an institution under the auspice of the Government of India.
This is the first time that a large contingent of Tibetan creative artistes was invited to the Indian Language Festival being held at India Habitat Centre here.
Tibetan singers Loten Namling, Jamyang Tashi and Sonam Dolma performed at the inaugural ceremony of the festival on Thursday, while Tibetan writers Tsering Wangmo Dhompa, Tenzin Tsundue and Bhuchung D. Sonam took part in the first session of the festival on Friday.
Anchoring around the festival’s main theme ‘Insider/Outside: Writing India’s Dreams and Realities, the Tibetan writers read from their works and discussed the issue of identity, writing in English and their exile experience.
‘As someone forced out of his country and being compelled to learn English in exile, I feel like being in a bardo or the intermediate state between death and rebirth. I think I am neither an insider nor an outsider,’ said Bhuchung D. Sonam.
Over a hundred poets, writers and translators from various Indian languages are taking part in the ILF that attracts a large number of Indian intellectuals and university students.
ILF Samanvay provides a space for socio-cultural engagements and promotes frees knowledge dissemination. It also incorporates sustainable way of social reach and also reaches out to children in the underprivileged communities.
