DHARAMSHALA, November 7: A US congressional delegation to China led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi left on Nov. 5 for an official visit that besides human rights issues will focus on economic growth, national security and cyber security and the importance of bold action to reduce carbon pollution.
Seeking to expand the relationship between the two super powers in advancing economic growth and confronting the climate crisis, Pelosi said, “Our Members will also seek to engage in constructive dialogue on human rights, cyber threats, and other national security and stability issues of concern.”
Pelosi, who has been outspoken on the issue of human rights and a great supporter of the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama and the Tibet cause, last led a delegation to China in 2009.
Democratic Representatives, Jim McGovern of Massachusetts, Betty McCollum and Tim Walz of Minnesota, Joyce Beatty of Ohio, and Alan Lowenthal and Ted Lieu of California are accompanying Pelosi on the visit.
“On this trip, I look forward to continuing the dialogue between our two nations as we discuss ways to grow the global economy, address climate change, and strengthen human rights,” McGovern said in his statement.
