DHARAMSHALA, Oct 7: The Tibetan Youth Congress celebrated their 46th founding day today with a basketball tournament at Dharamshala. The organisers TYC and Women’s Empowerment Desk of the Department of Home hosted the two final matches of both the men’s and women’s championship.

The function preceding the games saw former TYC Vice President and current Member of Parliament Karma Yeshi reminding the public that organization like the TYC stands on the backing of the common people and that it’s a people’s establishment.

He said, “A large organization like TYC is incorporated with the hard work of numerous individuals hence disagreements and problems are bound to surface. Yet it is in those times, the common people should not waver their commitment and remember that the organization has worked only for the welfare and the good of the Tibetan people and Tibet”.

Taking about the TYC’s hunger strike campaign in New Delhi, Karma added, “I had so much difficulty when I sat on a hunger strike for 26 days in Switzerland during my TYC days, I can only imagine what the two people are undergoing after 28 days”.

The General Secretary of TYC Tashi Lamsang told the gathering it is important to look back at the humble yet important days of the organization’s beginning. Reminiscing the 46 year journey he said, “TYC has grown tremendously from the time when our only resource was the sky above and the ground below to today where the most valuable possession is the people behind the organization”.

The gathering observed a minute’s silence mourning the Tibetans martyrs and cheered in support of the ongoing ‘indefinite hunger strike’ in the Indian capital. The hunger strike that began September 10 has now gone on for 28 days as of today.

The ‘Martyr’s Cup’ was lifted by Drokpa club in the men’s category and Mentsekhang in the girl’s category.
