DHARAMSHALA, July 17: Two Tibetans have been severely beaten before getting arrested on Monday in Chone (Ch: Zhuoni) County where a 36 year old Sangay Tso died of self immolation in May.
Namgyal Kyab and Bende Khar, residents of Nyinpa division of Chayphu nomadic village in Chone County, were confronted by Chinese officials when the two questioned the authorities’ decision to block the public road used by the Tibetan nomads in the area. The two were severely beaten up causing severe injuries. The two were taken away in a vehicle and their current whereabouts remain unknown.
“Chinese police hit N. Kyab at the front and rear of his head with the butt of a gun. Kyab was bleeding profusely before he fainted. The police were scared themselves and asked the residents to take him to hospital. Kyab’s condition was serious that witnesses didn’t want to be held responsible. Thus, police put him in their vehicle and drove to hospital. To covert the incident, police didn’t inform Kyab’s family. When he recovered days later, he was detained by the Chinese officials. B. Khar was handcuffed and beaten up too. Since then he went missing.”
Following the incident of Sangay Tso’s self immolation in protest against Chinese government policies, Dokhag Township, Tadrin Wangyal, Trinley Gyatso and three other monks have been detained by Chinese officials, reported the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), the only rights monitoring group run by Tibetans.
