Dharamsala, July 11: A 20 year old Tibetan woman has been arrested by the Chinese authorities on July 2 in Meruma Town, Ngaba County in eastern Tibet.

Arrested woman, Tashi Kyi, is the daughter of Monu and Tsering Kyiof Meruma village. Kanyang Tsering, a monk of Kirti Monastery based here said that she was reportedly taken to Ngaba County the day of her arrest. However, it is not known where she is currently being held.

Kyi has never been to school and helps her parents with nomadic chores around her household in the town, said Tsering.

The exact charges against Kyi have not been ascertained yet. However, local Tibetans suspect that Kyi’s arrest is related to last month’s 80th birthday celebrations of the exiled Tibetan leader Dalai lama in the region.
