DHARAMSHALA, May 19: Chinese authorities have secretly released a Tibetan political prisoner to avoid public celebration of his homecoming in Sichuan on May 17.
A day after his release, Palden Trinley, a monk of Kardze monastery arrived at his home around 3AM, after completing his seven year prison term.
Sources said two Chinese policemen escorted Trinley to his home in the wee hours of May 17 to avoid celebration of his arrival. However, local Tibetans who were expecting him waited all night and received him with traditional wellwishing scarves.
Trinley was arrested at the age of 19 along with five others for participating in a protest on May 18, 2008 in Kardze. The Kardze People’s Intermediate Court then sentenced Trinley to seven years imprisonment.
The current health condition of Trinley is not known. He was said to be in a poor health condition in March 2014, according to sources.
