DHARAMSHALA, April: A Tibetan man has been released from a Chinese prison in Qinghai on Mach 29 after completing his three year imprisonment sentence.
Tseten Gyal, 28, was arrested on March 29, 2012, following a mass protest in Gepasumdo (Ch: Tongde) county on March 16 by hundreds of Tibetans demanding the release of about 50 monks detained a day earlier for raising the Tibetan national flag and demanding freedom in Tibet.
He was sentenced to three years in prison on charges of distributing leaflets in solidarity with the protesters and inciting others to “rise against China.”
Gyal was among those who called for the immediate release of the monks of Ba Shingtre monastery on March 16, 2012. A day earlier, about 200 monks from the Ba Shangtre monastery had raised the Tibetan flag at the Gepasumdo county in Tsolho, after marching on the streets carrying banners calling for freedom in Tibet and the return of the Dalai Lama.
The Chinese authorities had warned the local Tibetans against holding any reception for Gyal who was secretly dropped off at his home in Gepasumdo County by the police on Sunday.
