DHARAMSHALA, March 8: A Tibetan monk has been arrested following a lone protest today in Ngaba County, Kanyag Tsering, a Tibetan monk at the exiled based Kirti monastery, said.
Gendun Phuntsok, 18, marched into the main street of Ngaba town carrying a huge portrait of the exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama adorned with a yellow traditional scarf. He shouted, “Let the Dalai Lama return to Tibet,” as he walked.
Within minutes into his solo protest, policemen on patrol took him away. There is no information on his current whereabouts.
Phuntsok is a monk of the Ngaba Kirti monastery, the monks of which have led several major protests in the area.
He hails from Chuglay Gapma of Cha village, Ngaba County. His father’s name is Tagya and mother’s Riggo.
A 47 year old TIbetan woman named Norchuk had died in the same County after setting herself ablaze on Friday. She became the fifth Tibetan woman to immolate self in Ngaba County.
