DHARAMSHALA, December 26: A Tibetan monk of Ngaba Kirti monastery has been brutally beaten before being arrested for carrying out a solitary protest in the streets of Ngaba County earlier today.

Lobsang Thinley, a Tibetan native of division 4 of Meruma township in Ngaba, carried out a solitary protest in a market in Ngaba County carrying a picture of the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, according to Kungam, a Tibetan from Ngaba who now lives in exile.

The protest took place today around 4.40PM (local time). Kungam said that Thinlay raised slogans calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and freedom in Tibet.

Minutes into his protest, Chinese armed forces and security personnel arrived at the protest site, beat him up and subsequently arrested him.

Thinley’s father Norden and mother Chokdup live in division 4 of Meruma township, home of Tsepe Kyi, the 20 year old Tibetan girl who died after setting herself ablaze on Dec. 22.

There is no information on Lobsang Thinlay as of now as authorities have stepped up its restrictions on communication lines and movement for the local Tibetans.

3 Tibetans have died by setting their bodies on fire in less than a month’s time in Tibet.
