MUNDGOD, INDIA, December 22: The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama today arrived in Doeguling Tibetan settlement here for a weeklong teaching on 18 great stages of the path commentaries (Lamrim).
Tibetans and foreign devotees lined up on both sides of the road leading to the main assembly hall of Jhangtse Monastery where the teachings will take place starting tomorrow.
The Tibetan leader was welcomed at the entrance to the Jhangtse assembly hall by Gaden Tripa Rizong Sey Rinpoche, His Eminence Ling Rinpoche, abbots of Gaden Shartse and Jhangtse Monasteries, among others.
His Holiness sat for a quick refreshment of sweetened rice and milk before speaking to the gathering comprising of senior Lamas, members of the Tibetan parliament, sponsors, settlement officer and other dignitaries.
Requested by His Eminence Yongzin Ling Rinpoche primarily and Gaden Shartse Monastery in 2011, the teaching is continuation of the session that began in 2012 and later followed up in Sera monastery in 2013.
Organizers expect over 30000 devotees including around 3000 from 60 different countries to attend the teachings that will be conclude on 29 December.
The Tibetan leader, who arrived here after participating in a conference on Secular Ethics organized by Tumkur University and Sera Jhey monastery at Tumkur near Bangalore on Sunday, said he had nothing special to say to the gathering. “I was a bit exhausted by the long sessions I had at the Nobel Summit in Rome, and the flight back to India. So see you tomorrow at teachings,” said the Tibetan leader.
A long life offering (Tenshug) will be offered to the Tibetan leader by the Drakyab Tenshug Organizing Committee on a date that will be announced later. Buddhists from Mon (monpas) in Arunchal Pradesh (birthplace of the sixth Dalai Lama) will felicitate the Tibetan leader with an award.
The teachings will be streamed live here and will be available in 11 different languages for the devotees.
