DHARAMSHALA, November 25: An earthquake measuring 6.3 on Richter scale hit Dartsedo County, Kardze Prefecture in Sichuan Province on Saturday around 4pm (local time) killing five and injuring 54.
According to official Chinese media, around 80,000 people were affected by the earthquake; forcing 6200 to evacuate as 25,000 houses were damaged.
Chinese President Xi Jinping who was in Fiji ordered officials in Sichuan Province and military to provide timely rescue support.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs on its website said that it has allocated 1,000 tents, 2,000 quilts and 2,000 cotton-padded coats to survivors. It has also sanctioned 50 million Yuan ($8.16 million) to disaster relief efforts.
It was also reported that several other counties like Tawu, Rongdrag, Gyedzur, Chagzam, and Nyagchu felt the tremors of the earthquake.
