DHARAMSHALA, November 12: Tibetans in Europe will hold a rally for Tibet in Paris, France, to commemorate the 56th year of Tibetan Uprising against Communist forces on March 14.
The first preparatory meeting for the rally was held in Paris on Saturday. Members of Tibetan Parliament Ven. Thubten Wangchen and Wangpo Tethong; Tibetan community leaders; representatives of Swiss Tibetan Women’s Association and International Campaign for Tibet attended the meeting.
The meeting, chaired by Thupten Gyatso, the President of the Tibetan Community in France, appointed the steering committee members and discussed on budget and programs for the rally.
Special lobby campaigns will also be carried out in other European countries.
On March 10, 1959, Tibetans in the capital city of Lhasa rose up against the Chinese occupying forces, leading to the death of thousands of Tibetans and the eventual escape of the Dalai Lama to exile.
Each year, Tibetans observe the day as the National Uprising Day all over the world.
