DHARAMSHALA, October 20: The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Saturday left his exile home of Dharamshala for a three week visit to Canada and the United States, where he is scheduled to take part in a series of public talks, religious teachings, and discussions with scientists. He stopped briefly in Narita, Japan before heading for Canada.
The 1989 Nobel Peace laureate is scheduled to begin his visit from Vancouver, Canada, and will participate in a forum with leading scientists in economics, neuroscience, psychology and public policy on the theme ‘Science of Education of the Heart’ at the Vancouver Convention Center on October 21.
His Holiness will also give a teaching on Geshe Langri Thangpa’s Eight Verses of Training the Mind (Lojong Tsikgyema) and confer the Avalokiteshvera Empowerment (Chenrezig Wang) in Vancouver on October 23 and will then travel to the United States of America.
In States, His Holiness will visit to Birmingham, Boston and New York City. His Holiness will participate in a dialogue on Neuroplasticity and Healing organized by the University of Alabama at Birmingham on October 25, among other events in Alabama.
His Holiness will give a talk at the International Symposium for Contemplative Studies organized by the Mind and Life Institute in Boston on October 31. The Tibetan leader is scheduled to deliver a public talk on “Educating the Heart and Mind”, requested by the Tibetan Association of Boston on November 1. US Senator Elizabeth Warren will introduce the Tibetan leader.
On the final leg of the tour, His Holiness will give a Buddhist teaching on Tsongkhapa’s Essence of True Eloquence (Drang Nges Lekshey Nyingpo) organized by Tibet House US at the Beacon Theater, New York, on November 3 and 4.
On November 7, His Holiness will return to Dharamshala where he will give teachings on Nagarjuna’s Precious Garland of the Middle Way (uma rinchen trengwa) at the request of a Korean group at the Main Tibetan Temple from November 11 to 13.
