Lone Tibetan protester arrested in Kardze

IMAGEIMAGE DHARAMSHALA, October 17: In less than two weeks after Passang Wangchuk’s solitary protest against China in Kardze County, another Tibetan man carried out a lone protest yesterday in Serta County.

According to a Tibetan living in exile with close contacts in the region, Dorjee Rinchen, popularly known as Dori, took to the streets of Serta yesterday throwing lungta (windhorse flags) in the air. Chinese police on patrol immediately arrested Dori, sources said.

It is not known where Dori is currently detained.

Dori is from Horshul village in Serta County. He was a former monk at Nubsoor monastery and runs a small business in Serta.

On October 4, a Tibetan named Passang Wangchuk, 37 carried out a lone protest in the market of Kardze County raising slogans and making onlookers read out his protest demands which was written on a white cloth. He called for the return of Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet among other slogans including “freedom in Tibet.”
