DHARAMSHALA, August 27: A pregnant wife of a Tibetan man who had succumbed to his untreated gunshot wounds earlier has hanged herself to death in Denma town in Sershul County last week.

According to Demay Gyaltsen, “On Aug. 18, the wife of Jinpa Tharchin, who succumbed to injuries and torture in detention, hanged herself and died.”

Jinpa Tharchin was among five Tibetans who had succumbed to injuries as Chinese authorities continued to deny medical attention to the Tibetans injured in a firing on unarmed protesters demanding release of a local village chief.

Moreover, a 64-year-old Dawa Lhamo, was subjected to severe torture in the detention center and is currently under critical condition. Gyaltsen described her condition as “immobile and unable to speak”.

Lhamo is aunt of village chief Wangdak. She was taken to the hospital in Dartsedo County in Kardze Prefecture however, none of her family members were allowed to the hospital.

The situation in Shukpa village continues to remain tense and all the communication lines have been put on trace.

The current condition and whereabouts of Wangdak also remain unknown.
