Chinese police beat up Tibetans in Zoege

DHARAMSHALA, JULY 10: At least a dozen Tibetans have been injured after they were beaten up by Chinese security forces in Zoege County in the restive Sichuan Province on Monday.

The incident took place after a truck carrying building materials for a temple renovation was stopped at a toll collection point in in Benyul village.

The driver, a Tibetan source said, showed valid permit papers but the Chinese security forces did not still allow the truck to pass through. The two village leaders of Benyul and a few Tibetans including women arrived at the site and tried to persuade the authorities but to no avail.

More policemen arrived at the scene and beat up several Tibetans including the elderly village heads. The injured were taken to a hospital in Zoege County. One of them has been taken to a bigger hospital in Chengdu with fatal injuries.
