DHARAMSHALA, JUNE 6: The presence of Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay at the swearing in ceremony of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Indian capital on May 26 has angered China, according to media reports.
China has expressed its disappointment through a demarche to India protesting against the invitation to the Tibetan PM Lobsang Sangay, who was a special guest at Modi’s swearing in. The Tibetan PM’s Facebook page later said, “Honorable Sikyong (political leader) attended the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an honored guest of the Bharatiya Janata Party.”
A picture of the Tibetan PM seated among guests at the Rashtrapati Bhawan was quickly circulated on social networking sites, drawing comments from Tibetans who expressed pleasure over the Tibetan PM’s presence at the oath taking event.
Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi will be arriving in India this weekend in his capacity as the special envoy of the Chinese president Xi Jinping who is likely to visit India in September.
Meanwhile, Tibetan PM Sangay maintains that any positive development in the relationship between India and China will be good for Tibet.
