DHARAMSHALA, MAY 16: At least nine Tibetans were injured in a clash between Tibetans from two villages on May 7 over land dispute in Serchen County in Tsolho prefecture, Qinghai province, an exile Tibetan source said.
Tibetans of Yangrong village and Chunga village in Irdi town of Serchen County have had disputes over land for several years with the local government failing to negotiate despite attempts by the Tibetans to have the matter settled.
The same source said there had been instances of quarrel between the two villages in the recent past but police and security forces had prevented any clashes.
On May 7, 2014, police arrived at the scene of a probable brawl between hundreds of Tibetans from the two villages but returned after inspecting the situation. However, the people from the two villages fought each other immediately after the police left the scene leading to injury of nine Tibetans.
Rinchen Gyal, 60; Wangmo Tso, 63; Norbu Dolma, 63; Lektsok, 18; Dadrak, 30; and two unidentified Tibetans had been taken to hospital in Tsolho for treatement, and Dorjee Tseten, 58; with serious injuries had been taken to a hospital in Xining city. All nine were from Chunga village.
Chinese government authorities in Serchen County have arrested the village head and the assistant village head of Yangrong Village around May 14, 2014. More Tibetans from Yangrong village are expected to be arrested following the incident.
