DHARAMSHALA, February 25: Chinese authorities in Machu County have released a Tibetan political prisoner in poor health for fear of death in custody, Radio Free Asia reported.
Goshul Lobsang, 43, has turned feeble and is in constant pain due to torture and beatings in prison, a Tibetan source said. Chinese authorities released him on October 27 last year fearing repercussions of his death in prison, the source added.
Lobsang spearheaded an anti government protest in Belpen, Machu County in 2008, when protests swept across the Tibetan plateau. He went into hiding after authorities started arresting Tibetans involved in protests. However, he was arrested in May, 2010 by Machu County Public Security Bureau officials.
Lobsang lives with his wife Tarey and two children. He had studied at the transit school for adults (now closed) at TCV Suja in 1992.
