DHARAMSHALA, January 30: A Tibetan man has been reportedly detained on Jan. 14 and subjected to torture for being in possession of banned pictures and audio recordings of the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in his mobile phone.
According to the US funded Radio Free Asia, Norgay from Dhingri in southwestern Tibet was detained during a random police check on Tibetans’ mobile phones in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet.
Citing a Nepal based source, RFA reported that Chinese Police found audio clips and pictures of His Holiness the Dalai Lama teachings on Norgyay’s mobile handset. The audio clip is reportedly of the recent teachings of the Tibetan leader in south India. “Chinese police warned him to sever all connections with outside contacts,” RFA quoted a source.
Last year, Ngawang Topden, 20-year-old Thangka painting student was sentenced to two years in prison for keeping images of self-immolation protests and the banned Tibetan national flag, and other photos showing Chinese atrocities on Tibetans in his mobile phones.
Since 2009, 125 Tibetans have set themselves on fire in Tibet protesting against the China’s occupation of Tibet and their hard-line policies.
