Tibetans celebrate 65th Republic Day of India

DHARAMSHALA January 26: The Central Tibetan Administration today celebrated the 65th Republic Day of India at its headquarters at Ghankyi Kyishong led by the caretaker PM Pema Chinjor.

Chinjor, the minister for religion and culture, unfurled the tricolor Indian national flag in front of the Kashag Secretariat earlier this morning as the Indian national anthem was being sung. Also present were Ms. Dolma Gyari, minister for home, and secretaries of various departments and other senior officials of the administration.

Speaking to reporters here, Chinjor expressed his gratitude to the people and government of India for the several decades of hospitality provided to the Tibetans. “We are really grateful to the nation, to the people and to the states that have hosted Tibetans.”

He also lauded India’s struggle under British rule saying there had been several great leaders and statesmen that India has produced. “This nation has lived under British colonial rule for 200 hundred years. You have had great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, and Pandit Nehru who have contributed a lot to this great country on its path to progress.”

Indian Republic Day, celebrated on January 26 every year, is an important national day celebrations in India. It was on January 26th, 1950 that the constitution of India came into force.
