DHARAMSHALA, January 15: The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Monday said that love and compassion are the only things that a human being should develop to become a good individual. The 78 year old Nobel Laureate was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a national seminar on the philosophy of Nagarjuna.
“Ultimate source of happiness is inner strength and self confidence,” said the Tibetan leader at Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University in Raipur, Chattisgarh, birth place of Nagarjuna.
“Knowledge in brain and experience in heart should come together. Non-violence does not mean doing nothing. It means no force no violence. I have faced a lot in my life. At 24, I lost my country; at 60 I have faced a lot of difficulties. But above all, one should be a good human being,” he said.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the Chief Minister of the state Dr Raman Singh. It was jointly organized by the Ravishankar Shukla University and the Central University of Tibetan Studies, Sarnath.
His Holiness also visited the Chaanda Devi caves where Nagarjuna was believed to have meditated. “This place is full of natural beauty. My guru Nagarjuna meditated here and I felt his presence here today. It was very peaceful,” His Holiness said.
