DHARAMSHALA, December 25: Two additional election commissioners for the bi-election of a Domed MP were sworn in by the Chief Justice Commissioner Ngawang Phelgyal Gyechen Tuesday.

Geshe Rinzin Choedak and Yangko Gyal, who held the same posts earlier during the 2011 general elections and Kalon Tripa elections, were elected by the Standing Committee of the Tibetan parliament in exile.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay, ministers of the cabinet, Tibetan Justice Commissioners, Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament and the Election Commissioner.

The dates for the preliminary and final elections have not been announced as yet. A Tibetan MP from Domey constituency resigned last month necessitating bi-election for the seat as there was no one in waiting list of Domey constituency with the required 33% percent of votes cast as per the electoral guidelines.

The Tibetan Charter requires that two additional election commissioners be appointed at least 90 days before the preliminary elections. An estimated twenty lakh Rupees (20,00,000) will have to be spent from the Tibetan government’s exchequer for the election.
