LTWA honors prof. for contribution to literature

DHARAMSHALA, December 16 – The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives today held a modest ceremony to felicitate Prof. Parmananda Sharma, one of the first Indian friends His Holiness the Dalai Lam made in his hill town home, for his academic achievements and contributions to literature.

Citing his hard works as member of the LTWA governing body member since 1987, Geshe Lhakdor la, the director of LTWA, said ‘Prof. Sharma’s contribution in preserving Tibetan culture and literature is laudable.

Prof. Furqan Qamar, the Vice-Chancellor of the HP Central University, said if ever someone want to be immortal, they can remain immortal through their dedication and passion for Sharma’s work.

Prof Samdhong Rinpoche, former Kalon Tripa released Prof Sharma’s latest work, a translation of a book by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, ‘Good Heart’.

Prof PN Sharma, in his acceptance speech said its an honor for him to be honored so much. “The best thing to challenge any obstacle is to work work and work.”

Sharma has been on various advisory bodies within the Tibetan administration, especially the Department of Information and International Relations which publishes literature on the Tibetan administration’s policies. Prof. Sharma has translated several Tenth March Uprising addresses of His Holiness the Dalai Lama into Hindi.

Prof Sharma was born in a teacher’s family in 1923. He writes in Hindi, English, Urdu, Punjabi and Pahari. He has more than 30 published books.
