DHARAMSALA, December 2 : Reports have emerged out of Tibet of several “arbitrary arrests” in the restive Driru County in Tibet’s Nagchu region. A Tibetan exile originally from Driru said his sources have reported arrest of three Tibetans at separate times since September this year.
Lobsang Choeying and Kunchok Choephel of Ngayang village, Tsachu township, were arrested on November 23 this year. Lobsang is charged with involvement in the protests against government in front of a school in September, and Kunchok is accused of sending out information about the recent protests in Driru to outside “separatist forces” headed by the Dalai Lama whom China reviles as “a monk in a wolf’s robe”.
In another incident, a monk of Rabten monastery, Lobsang Tashi was forced out of his quarters while on a meditation for his Tantric studies course on September 23. His laptop and cellphones were also seized.
Family members and relatives of the arrested Tibetans are left wondering where their near ones are held. However, sources believe that they are held in Chinese prisons and detention centres in Nagchu, Driru and Lhasa.
Sources also said that the county law enforcement authorities have released a list of Tibetans who have studied outside Nagchu prefecture to be called for the Thought Education Campaign. The Tibetans who had been released since September will also be subjected to the Thought Education Campaign.
The authorities are strictly monitoring all movements in and out of Driru, intercepting all communication lines; the source said adding that it was difficult to acquire the details about arrests.
