DHARAMSHALA, November 11: Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama today gave a day’s discourse on Tsongkhapa’s “Three Principal Aspects of the Path” at the request of a Malaysian group at Tsuglakhang, the main temple here.

Although Pali and Sanskrit traditions of Buddhism flourished in China, King Trisong Detsen not only wanted to bring Buddhism into Tibet from China but also wanted to bring Buddhism directly from India and invited Shantarakshita (Khenchen Shiwatso) to Tibet.”

He also noted that Tibetan Buddhism is not only an ancient philosophy but also very much related to today’s mordern philosophy.

He also said that a cause of suffering lies not outside but within an individual. “As a human being, everyone wants happiness and no one wants suffering. The sufferings in our soul cannot be alleviated with a surgery; it can only be cured by our own soul,” 78-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader added.”

The teaching was attended by thousands of Tibetans, monks, nuns and foreig devotees.

The teaching was simultaneously relayed in English, Chinese, Russian and Vietnamese languages.

On November 13, His Holiness is scheduled to address a conference on “The Nalanda Tradition of Buddhism” in New Delhi. His Holiness will then leave for Japan where he will participate in public talks and a dialogue with scientists.
