DHARAMSHALA, November 1: A differently abled Tibetan monk from Dhidha region in Pema County, Golog, has been sentenced to seven years in prison by Chinese authorities on charges of “separatism”, a Tibetan source with contacts in the area said.
Tseyang, 33, was arrested in March this year and his whereabouts remained unknown until his family and relatives were informed by Chinese authorities that they arrested Tseyang for his involvement in a number of anti-government protests in Barkham, Kardze and Ngaba since 2008.
When Tseyang was young he sustained some major burn injuries on his head, hands and legs in a fire accident. He spent six years in an orphanage called “Bhsod-yig Jamkyong Lob-da”. He later became a monk.
Since the massive uprisings of 2008, Tibet has witnessed numerous demonstrations and protests against Chinese rule. Tibetans continue to burn themselves demanding freedom in Tibet and return of exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama. 122 Tibetans have self immolated in Tibet since February 2009.
