DHARAMSHALA, October 25: The Federation of Tibetan Co-operatives in India (FTCI) today launched its online shopping portal at Hotel Tibet, Mcleod Ganj.

A modest inaugural ceremony was attended by Tibetan Home Minister Dolma Gyari; Siva Reddy, Managing Director of GOCOOP-organization promoting cooperatives globally and Tashi Wangdu, CEO of FTCI.

Speaking at the occasion, Dolma Gyari said, “I support and appreciate the organization for taking a step along with change in a way of doing business in the world.”

“We should also make an attempt to produce the products available in the site by ourselves,”she added.

Over 200 products will be available now under nine categories for which purchases can be made from 15 countries including Australia, China, France, Japan, United States and United Kingdom.

Tashi Wangdu, CEO of FTCI said that two or three years back, to launch an online shop in India would not be possible due to less number of people using internet banking and unreliable shipping service.

“Today, we are starting this with the very small objective, but I think tomorrow this could be a major enabler for business development for Tibetan community in India,” said Siva Reddy, Managing Director of GOCOOP.

He also added, “I think we will make a strong impact in the e-commerce space for the Tibetan artisans.”

GOCOOP is an online social market place for cooperative and community based producer organizations. FTCI has partnered with GOCOOP.com for this e-commerce project.

Federation of Tibetan Co-operatives in India (FTCI), a registered independent body composed of 15 Tibetan cooperatives, is a member of Fair Trade India Forum.
